TreesDurham has decided to hold a Community Engagement Event at each of our planting locations prior to planting! This is an event that will give us an opportunity to connect with the individuals of the community in a way that could make plantings go smoothly for our organization, and the community itself.
Oakley Square Apartments Community Engagement was the first of many, and was held on September, 11 2021 from 9:00 A.M. - Noon! There were a total of 30 people to attend this event and a total of 8 vendors who helped out including:
During this event, food was provided, fun games for participating children were available, a raffle was created to give away house hold items to residence, and time will be allotted to speak with community members about tree plating. Our team got a chance to spread information about different types of trees and what their benefits to the community would be if planted. After lending that information and answering questions, community members were able to tell us what type of trees they would like to see planted around their apartment complex and why. Most wanted to see more Oak and Cherry Blossom trees in their neighborhood, specifically for color.
We enjoyed TreesDurham's very first Community Engagement Event and are excited to get some trees in the ground for the Oakley Square Apartment residence.
