Invasive Species Bioblitz
Become a Citizen Scientist at Ellerbe Creek

Want to get outside in a pretty place? Like scavenger hunts? Want to participate in citizen science? Me too! And we're in luck.
We need your help locating invasive species across Ellerbe Creek. Over the next two weeks, volunteers (hopefully you!) will be using the iNaturalist App to identify and mark invasive species at five different Ellerbe Creek preserves. Its easy, fun, and will help us gather the information we need to combat invasive species and restore our local ecosystems. This is a perfect activity for all ages and experience levels, and social distance friendly. All you need is a desire to be outside, a smart phone with a camera, and the iNaturalist app! How? Click the button on the right to sign up to participate in the Bio Blitz. Once you sign up, we'll reach out to provide you with maps and more specifics about the project. Want Training First? We will be holding three optional trainings. These will focus on how to use the iNaturalist app, and give some more information about the project in general. Sign up for the trainings below. You do not have to go to the trainings to participate in the bio blitz. |

TreesDurham's Monthly meeting

Come join us at our regular member meeting, open to everyone (that means you!). We'll learn stuff, connect and take action!
We will spend the first part learning interesting things about trees from experts. Next we'll talk about opportunities to take action, from tree plantings to advocacy work. On the first Wednesday of each month we will meet to discuss a tree related books. All our books are about trees and forests but written by those with variety of different lived experiences, perspectives and expertise. Looking forward to seeing you then!

September 2nd: "Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses" by Robin Kimmerer
October 7th: "A New Voyage to Carolina" by John Lawson
November 5th: "This Land is Our Land" by Jedediah Purdy
December 2nd: "What A Plant Knows" by Daniel Chamovitz
